Unlike their predecessors (and few of their contemporaries), Disney parks have always boasted attractions that are more than just rides. They're experiences with which we bond intellectually and emotionally. It's no surprise then that fond remembrances of the lost, extinct, or radically changed attractions of Disney parks have found a home on the Internet. If you've ever longed for, or even wondered about "the ones that got away", these are the sites to see.

Sites are listed alphabetically. All links open in a new window, so you won't lose your place here.

Attraction of the Week:
Zazu and Iago take an amusingly irreverent, and often very insightful look at attractions throughout Disneyland and Walt Disney World. There are many classics here, which have unfortunately been relegated to "Yesterland". It's a great way to re-live old favorites and discover new ones!

The Horizons Tribute:
The Horizons Tribute is a Yahoo Group, dedicated to the memory and promise of EPCOT Center's Horizons. Even if you've never taken this incredible voyage into a bright and possible future, it's well worth a visit. Features an extensive message base, photos, live chat, and more.

Waltopia:
While EPCOT is easily one of the most innovative theme parks ever conceived, it's a far cry from what Walt Disney had envisioned. His "Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow" was to be a city of the future, where residents could live, work, and play--enjoying a lifestyle unlike any they could find elsewhere. Read more about Walt's plans for EPCOT at Waltopia.

WDW: A History in Postcards:
A fascinating look at the Walt Disney World that was, and might have been, as seen in postcards. Includes rare pre-opening postcards with renderings that in some cases differ considerably from what was eventually built.

WEBCOT:
Michael Crawford presents an entertaining and informative look at "classic" EPCOT. His descriptions of the EPCOT that was make us long for the good old days, and his candor, easy-going writing style and subtle humor make for a very entertaining read. Be sure to read the section about Food Rocks, and tip your Disney's Handwich ® in a toast the Veggie-Veggie Fruit-Fruit Guys (both, unfortunately, are extinct).

Widen Your World:
"You could widen your world, if you had wings!" This is a very touching and informative tribute to Walt Disney World's late and great "If You Had Wings" attraction. But it's also much more, as the author has devoted his loving attention and witty writing style to many other lost classics. If you have a soft spot for classic Disney, this is a must-read!

Yesterland:
Quite probably the most comprehensive look at extinct Disneyland attractions, ever to appear on the Internet. From the Phantom Boats to the Submarine Voyage, Captain EO, Adventure Thru Inner Space, and more. This site is an incredible trip down memory lane, and a somber reminder of how much we've lost.
