Who Remembers Discovery Island?

I do.

Beautiful plumage…

And it was awesome.

(Don’t worry. He was just tired and shagged out after a prolonged squawk.)

  • Old school, DI… not the AK ripoff. Yeah! 🙂

  • The way it was meant to be! Via motor launch!

  • This was always part of my time at Fort Wilderness. The great partwas my aunt’s family had found an injured owl that they nursed back to health and then donated to the Island. Until it closed, we were able to visit Discovery Island for free to check on the bird. When it closed, however, no one seemed to be able to tell us what happened to the bird.

  • We did it 1994 during the waning years of Discovery Island.

During that trip, we also rode the Mouse Boats at the Contemporary and Disney Village. We called that morning to get reservations at the Top of the World. And we ate there twice.

And we only took about 36 pictures.

    WHY didn’t we take more?!?!?!?!

  • Lovely plumage on that bird… Norweigan Blue, perhaps?

Fort Wilderness was our home for the earliest of of family trips to WDW, and Discovery Island was a “must do” each visit. Such a peaceful counterpoint to the Magic Kingdom.

  • Dan

He’s probably pining for the fjords.

The bird had just heard about the plan to put the Enchanted Tiki Room under new management.

  • HAHA and WC for the win!

Why, if they hadn’t nailed him to the perch he’d be pushing up daisies!

    Beautiful plumage, though.

Ryan: That’s an awesome story! Talk about celebrity haha…

George: 36 pictures? Tsk tsk tsk…. smh, as the kids would say.

Discovery Island looks pretty rough these days. They’ve even torn down the dock, which is kind of weird. Prime real estate, going to waste.

I remember! It was lovely, but I felt sorry for the birds in those tiny cages. What became of DI?
