Who says the Germans aren’t funny?!?!
It’s a Disney Trololo!
Of course, the real question is- how is this any different from some of the Disney specials that have been done in the parks? (I’m thinking of the opening of Splash Mountain special in the Magic Kingdom, for example, or Kurt Russel and the Osmonds opening the Haunted Mansion.) The cheese crosses culture!
The German language is all the more beautiful when sung.
I’m nervous about the weird hangman-like game of letters and dashes in the top left. What happens if we get it wrong?
I like how the dwarfs all sound like deranged chipmunks – or maybe the minions from ‘Despicable Me.’ I wonder if Disney has a suit there.
And the queen is fun. Why isn’t she still greeting children at Magic Kingdom?
And the magic carpet flight effect: years before its time.
I don’t know if I can thank you enough.
Other than the obvious “this is hilarious,” two observations:
1) The walk-around characters used to be TERRIFYING.
2) I have this same reaction anytime I see photo/video from before ca. 1994, but holy crap, I can’t believe how clean and BEAUTIFUL everything looks! Ugh… Why can’t we have nice things anymore?
They still have these cheesy lip-singing type shows on ZDF (which means the Second German Television channel). I find it really odd that they took a song originally in English, translated it and its title into German, then displayed the German title with a poorly re-translated English caption under it.
who was that random woman dressed in white in the wicked witch bit?
I don’t know about the US, but I grew up with this style of TV show in Australia. Which led to a string of comedic take offs – and our most famous is Bob Downe. For 30 years this man has been singing songs from 30 years ago.

Ladies and Gentlemen, where are your troubles now?
Forgotten, I told you so!
We have no troubles here, here life is beautiful.
The girls are beautiful.
Even the orchestra is beautiful.
I prefer Dorothy Hamill’s skating to her singing.
Peter! You’re gonna fall off that carpet if you keep dancing around like that!
JITNEY!
OMG, he spanked the witch!
These are excerpts from a German TV-show promoting Walt Disney World in 1976 to German audiences. I guess it was produced by Disney and a German broadcast company. The show was hosted by Peter Alexander an Austrian Entertainer and had guest appearances by Mireille Mathieu, Anna Moffo!!! and others.
The “random woman dressed in white” is Danish singer Wencke Myhre who was a big star in Germany in those days. She actually reappeared in this show as Mary Poppins..
Parts of this show can be found on YouTube.. unfortunately not the whole thing..
