New Tomorrowland – Since the spectacular failure of Disneyland’s 1998 remodeling of Tomorrowland, there have been various rumors of new refurbishments for the now-decrepit area. Imagineers are now said to be working on a complete overhaul of the area, although details and timelines are unknown.
New E-Ticket Attractions – In a story from January of 2010, Al Lutz reported that Imagineers are looking at sites behind Frontierland and Tomorrowland for new E-ticket attractions. (Reported in January 2010)
Hollywoodland Placemaking – As part of phase two of the California Adventure expansion, it’s been said that the current “Hollywood Pictures Backlot” will become “Hollywoodland”, and receive extensive thematic upgrades to make the area actually look like Hollywood of the 1930s and 40s.
Replacement for Muppet*Vision 3D – Disney has considered a number of options for replacing this long-in-the-tooth film; an early plan for the California Adventure expansion showed the attraction being replaced by Mickey’s Philharmagic. With the new Muppet resurgence, though, this film might be here to stay.
Removal of the Maliboomer – Originally a candidate for rethemeing, the unsightly Maliboomer was eventually slated for demolition in 2011. There are conflicting stories as to whether this plan is still operative.
Removal of Jumpin Jellyfish – Much like Maliboomer, this carnival attraction was slated for removal in 2010. Disney’s current plans for the attraction are unknown.
Condor Flats Retheming – As part of California Adventure’s phase two expansion, this area will receive a facelift that will blend it better with the adjoining Grizzly Peak attractions. This means that the desert airfield look will be lost and replaced with a National Park feel.
These are the rumors that were – the rumors that have either been around for so long that they have been put on ice in the “attic”, or the rumors of plans that have been superseded by other developments. Some of these may re-emerge in a new form some day, but for now they wait here…
