Sub For One…

Not pictured: Tom 1.0

I just happened upon this picture of a “solosub” undergoing animation testing at WED Enterprises in January 1983. Later that year it would be packed and shipped to Orlando for installation in Horizons, which opened that October.

All I’m saying is that it’s been almost thirty years since the ride opened, and more than a decade since it closed, and I still want one of these suckers really bad.

I just wish they would bring Horizons back. Not to mention original Journey into Imagination.

    Hi Michael,
I still have my concept model of theat little sub. I have all the concept models I did for Horizons. Thanks for the memories.

Praise the Lord! I’m so happy to hear that YOU George have all the beloved concept models in YOUR possession!

Thank YOU for the memories dear George.

I can’t find the little sub model. I have so much stuff and my memory loss caused me to misspeak. I should have said I have my concept drawings of Horizons pavilion. Subs in a protective box I hope.

Question – how do you see to know where you’re going in one of those? Would it have been a heads-up holo-display? That would certainly be feasible in the proposed future living of Horizons.

Anyway, it’s a beautiful-looking craft, to be sure. I’ve just always wondered what it would be like to sit in one. When I finally got to study a picture, it hit me that you probably couldn’t see straight ahead all that well.

That said, I’d prefer a hovercraft/flyer like the Pegasus from the desert scene. Thanks for inspiring a whole generation of dreamers and innovators.
